Beyond Microprocessor Feet: Understanding All Your Options to Improve Gait

This course is designed for practitioners interested in learning about the latest microprocessor and powered foot technology for their lower limb patients. The course will review microprocessor feet, including the Triton Smart Ankle, the Meridium, and, and the emPower foot for the transtibial and transfemoral user. An overview of the features, benefits, alignment, programming and training users to maximize results will be covered in this 4 hour course.


Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of the course the participants will be able to:

  • Differentiate between the features and benefits provided by the Triton Smart Ankle, Meridium, and emPower MPF versus other MPF mechanisms.
  • Describe the alignment procedures.
  • Identify the critical steps in programming the feet.
  • Perform the appropriate adjustments to each MPF for successful fitting.
  • Instruct the patient and physical therapist on the basic training steps necessary for successful ambulation.

Ottobock MPKs: Know the Differences

This course is designed for practitioners interested in learning and using the latest technology for TF and HD patients. The course will review Ottobock family of microprocessor knees, including the Kenevo, C-Leg 4, the Genium Bionic System and X3, as well as information regarding reimbursement resources. An overview of the features, benefits, alignment, programming and training users to maximize results will be covered in this course.


Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of the course the participants will be able to:

  • Differentiate between the features and benefits provided by the Kenevo, C-Leg and Genium Bionic Knee system versus other MPK mechanisms.
  • Describe the alignment procedures.
  • Identify the critical steps in programming the knees.
  • Perform the appropriate adjustments to each knee for successful fitting.
  • Instruct the patient and physical therapist on the basic training steps necessary for successful ambulation.

Credits:

  • 8 (s) ABC CEUs for the entire day OR 4 (s) ABC CEUs for a half day
  • CPs, CPAs, and CTPs will receive Category I ABC CEUs. All other certifications will receive Category II CEUs.


Presenters:

Ariel Cabana, CPO and Stephanie Porter, MS, CPO

Ariel Cabana studied Prosthetics and Orthotics at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA. She received a Bachelor of Science in P&O and then moved to NYC to complete her residencies in both disciplines. Her work in NYC at the Hospital for Special Surgery enabled her to travel to Ghana, Africa and treat underserved people with prosthetic and orthotic needs. She worked in private practice early in her career and then worked for Hanger Prosthetics and Orthotics. She has always wanted to work in education and has been delighted to work with Ottobock HealthCare as a clinical specialist in Prosthetics. She joined Ottobock in July, 2009. Her primary role involves providing clinical education related to microprocessor knees, socket technologies and the C-Brace orthotronic mobility system.

Stephanie is an ABC Certified Prosthetist-Orthotist, who has been supporting the BiOM and Empower ankles for the last six years. Stephanie earned her Masters in Exercise Science at Georgia State University before learning about O&P and making her way to Connecticut. She graduated from The Newington Certificate Program in 2001/2002 and completed her residencies in practices throughout Connecticut, before heading west to Colorado. During her time in patient care, she was a Practice Manager for Hanger and CPM, working with both adult and pediatric orthotic and prosthetic patients in the Denver metro area. While in Colorado, Stephanie also served as the Residency Director for Hanger in the state of Colorado and as an NCOPE Regional Residency liaison. Stephanie joined the Ottobock team in 2017 by way of the BionX acquisition. She believes in the power of mobility to improve a patient's overall health, and enjoys helping clinicians redefine what is possible for their patients.
